Christmas Event 2015

With much anticipation, we met on Wednesday 23 December early in the morning in Frutigen for the legendary Deleproject Christmas outing. There was a lot of excitement, because no one knew which direction the journey would head in.

At Frutigen station we were greeted by two BLS staff – equipped with safety vests and helmets – who drove us toward Mitholz. On the journey in the minibus, we discovered that we were to visit the Lötschberg Base Tunnel. Impressed by how the heavy doors of the escape tunnel opened up in front of us, went into the tunnel system. We looked arounf the Mitholz operations center, the impressive ventilation center, the test track at a 1:1 scale and, through a special window, watched a train rushing past at 200 km/h. Afterwards we drive back to Spiez. Here we found out that the next stop was to be in Zermatt.
If you want to get attuned to Valais, you can’t go without a class of Fendant.

Well fortified, we ventured after lunch onto the ice field in the centre of Zermatt. The first challenge began once had our ice hockey kits on. After half an hour we took our places on the ice rink – still a little shaky! – and posed for the group photo. After a quick warm-up, the red team and the blue team battled it out for victory. With the blue team’s victory (and, luckily, no injuries), a well deserved Valais platter was served up.

In the evening, after 40 minutes on foot, we reached the Blatten mountain restaurant above Zermatt. In perfect ambience, with the moonlight overlooking the Matterhorn and torches in the snow, we marked a successful year with a glass of mulled wine. Inside, a delicious Chinese fondue awaited us.
Back in the village, we enjoyed a comfortable evening.
