Christmas Event 2014

On 19 December we met for the traditional and legendary team event. The usual secrecy about the goals and activities this time was dispelled shortly after commencement of the journey, as all the information was published openly on a dedicated website.

In the morning we visited the Forsthaus power station in Berne. An entertaining guide introduced us to the various areas – waste incineration, wood heating and the gas & steam turbine. Mr Schaller explained many technical details to us, keeping us in a good mood with a few humorous anecdotes.

Next we went to Basel, where we enjoyed lunch during a cruise on the MS Baslerdybli.  It was a clear day we could see the city spreading out before us while we strengthened ourselves for the afternoon.

At the curling centre in Arlesheim, we ventured onto the ice. After a short introduction and equipped with a broom, we wiped the sheet clean. A corporate tournament was played across two divided rinks, where the priority was to just enjoy the game. Despite our modest levels, there was immediate excitement and the stones were played with ambition and enjoyment.

After the hotel, we took an aperitif in the Bar Rouge in Basel’s Messeturm. At a height of 105m, the view of the city on the Rhine is just as impressive as the drinks menu.

At the end, a long table at Kohlmanns restaurant was reserved for us in Basel’s central Barfüsserplatz. During the very fine meal, there were a few tall tales and a lot of laughter. Full and satisfied, we plunged finally the Basel nightlife – only reaching home the next morning.

Out thanks go out to the two organisers – Marcel Hertig and Adrian Kamer – for this varied, delightful and perfectly planned day.
